Improved ASTM D3574 Ready for Release in 2012 ASTM D3574-08 (Standard Test Methods for Flexible Cellular Materials - Slab, Bonded, and Molded Urethane Foam) has recently completed successful balloting of a significant revision. The major addition has been the development of a standard constant deflection pounding durability test including the round robin precision information. This test is referenced in many Asian automotive standards. Also included in the revision is much more definitive instructions for load deflection and compression set testing. This should help reduce the subjectivity many users have faced when running these tests, ultimately leading to the improved precision of these methods. The historical use of indentation force deflection number ratios as a general indication of hysteresis loss has been clarified with a new definition in the standards appendix. A note has been added to give guidance to the users on the proper selection of load cells for mechanical tests. Finally, the entire standard was given a thorough review to remove permissive language. This latest revision will be released in Q1 2012 after the completion of a final editorial review. |
